what would you do?

Ok, so we spend a fair amount of money on (mostly print, much to my chagrin) advertising at work. A few weeks back I pitched the idea to my boss of doing a test run of ad mpressions on the largest local news web site.

The sales rep I dealt with has been..in a word..ditzy. It took probably 10 telephone calls back and forth just to connect with him, he never sent me his contact details via e-mail as he had promised, etc, etc. To complicate matters, the site (which is also our local newspaper) puts its workers on furlough (to save money, I guess) so the week the ad went live the guy was out of the office and "not allowed" to respond to emails, phone calls, anything.

He put me in touch with another account exec to get our account set up and an invoice so we could submit to our corporate for reimbursement (they are splitting the cost with us). I filled out their account form as requested and faxed it as well as scanned/e-mailed it to this other account rep and got an e-mail back from her stating she received it.

That was two weeks ago. I've heard nothing from her or the original account exec since. No invoice, no phone call, no e-mail - nothing. Curious, I did a couple of refreshes this morning on the sections on the site we targeted with the ad and oddly enough, the ad is running.

At this point, I'm kind of at a loss what to do. This is over a thousand dollars in advertising and apparently they aren't making any effort to collect on the bill. My moral side says to call the guy and mention we never received an invoice but my other side (and my boss, lol) says 'fuck it.' If they want their money they can come get it.

What would you do?

I always play mum on any missing invoices at work. We accrue for the expense and if we haven't received it after that statue of limitations, write it off.

Re: what would you do?

I would send a email and save the document but quit wasting your time on it. Stick a reminder in your calendar for a couple months out. They will get back with you eventually. You are wasting time (your time is $$$) trying to hunt them down. Just a quick email then it's in their ball.

Re: what would you do?

thanks all.

for such a huge, prestigious organization (gannett publications), they don't seem to run a very tight ship. we were agreed on 50,000 total impressions on the front of the Business and Cincinnati Reds sections, both of which are steady, and in the case of the Reds - trending up - per the stats they provided me with, but since it's been two weeks and the ad's still running i'm guessing we have had quite a few more than that.

oh well!
